... of oil, that is. Yesterday’s 100 mile highway trip resulted in the Chevelle’s oil level being about 2/3 of a quart lower than when we started, which works out to 600MPG
o.
I’m pretty sure it doesn’t know what valve seals are. Also a good chance it doesn’t know what piston rings are, either, but I’ve yet to check the compression.
In other news, it’s home! I’ll have more on that later, though.
Edit: In case you’re curious, it got 12MPG gasoline.

Is it burning or escaping?

No drips on the garage floor after 24 hours (surprising, I thought the timing cover leaked more than that). I’m both looking forward to and afraid to compression test it, I suspect the rings aren’t too happy. It’s also a very real possibility that there’s nothing left of the cam after 100k miles over 45 years, which combined with just-as-old valve seals would burn a lot of oil.

2/3 qt = 1/6 gallon in 100 miles = 600 miles per gallon

Huh. Well that teaches me for not fact checking units that I’m not terribly familiar with. That was too much math for my brain t automatically process today. Thank you. Sorry I made bad assumptions, my bad.
